Teachers regularly assess student progress toward language proficiency.

To assist with tracking progress and identifying areas for improvement, students in grades 2-6 take the AAPPL assessment once a year.  This untimed, computer-based test assesses students' ability to produce and understand language in the four modes of communication (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).

The AAPPL performance report explains what a child can do. The score report also describes what a child can practice to move to the next level of proficiency. The AAPPL proficiency levels correspond to internationally-recognized language proficiency scales (A1-C2).

Most FLAG students reach our goal of A2 proficiency by 6th grade. Assessing for B1 and B2 proficiency is possible in middle school FLAG and beyond
